Get away from bright lights if you can

What makes a good location

Look for a safe and legally accessible place with a wide view of the sky, few nearby obstructions and as little direct artificial light as practical.

Direct lights versus skyglow

A lamp shining into your eyes can be a bigger immediate problem than distant glow because it prevents dark adaptation. Both matter, but they affect you differently.

City versus countryside

Moving away from dense city centres usually helps fainter meteors appear. SunPoint can explain that practical principle without claiming a specific site is objectively dark unless light-pollution data is available.

Trees, buildings and terrain

Meteor showers need broad sky. Tall trees, close buildings and valley walls reduce the amount of sky you can monitor, even if the radiant direction itself is visible.
